Women's Auxiliary of Motorsports to Collect DVD's at South Boston Speedway

CONCORD, N.C. (September 12, 2006) – The Women’s Auxiliary of Motorsports, Inc. (WAM) is pleased to announce that it will expand it’s Operation DVD program to South Boston Speedway on Saturday, September 16, 2006.

WAM member and former Miss South Boston Speedway, Katie Bowes, will be on hand Saturday for the final points race of the weekly racing series at the speedway.  Miss Bowes, a 2004 graduate from Hargrave Military Academy, will be stationed at the front ticket gate with an Operation DVD drop box collecting the DVD’s.

“When I saw what WAM and Operation DVD were doing I just had to get involved”, stated Miss Bowes, a junior at Bridgewater College in Bridgewater Virginia.  “Having graduated from Hargrave Military, I have a personal connection to the military and I also have some close friends who have served overseas.  With my passion for our troops and a love of motorsports this was a perfect fit for me.”

"We are very excited that Katie has stepped up to take on this project in her hometown," stated Brian Bell, Industry Relations Manager for WAM.  "With help from our members like Katie we hope to continue to make the Operation DVD program grow."

WAM announced it’s involvement with the Operation DVD program back in July.  DVD’s can be new or gently used and all types of films are welcome with the exception of adult films.  Some good examples include motivational, inspirational and especially films that inspire a sense of family and moral values.  “Children Titles” donated will be distributed to Servicemen’s families (Stateside) through the Family Readiness Group of the National Guard with the assistance of AMVETS.  Music CD’s are also appreciated.

The Women’s Auxiliary of Motorsports, Inc. (WAM, Inc.), was established in 2004 with the merger of the Winston Cup Racing Wives Auxiliary and the Busch Series Ladies Association.  The Auxiliary’s mission is to enrich the lives of women, children, and families through educational and wellness programs.  In addition, the Women’s Auxiliary of Motorsports, Inc. helps support organizations with likeminded missions and purposes.  For more information on WAM be sure to visit www.waminc.org.
