![]() Women's Auxiliary of Motorsports Set to Adopt Ducks for CharityConcord, NC (February 15, 2006) – The Women’s Auxiliary of Motorsports, Inc. (WAM), supported by the NASCAR Foundation, is pleased to announce that it will hold a second year of duck adoptions for charity. Fans from all across the country will be able to “adopt” a duck at select race tracks or through the WAM website throughout the 2006 season. The adopted ducks will then be dropped onto a target from a crane outside the Homestead-Miami Speedway in Homestead, Fla. in November during Championship weekend. The winning duck will be the one closest to the center bullseye. The other winners will be determined from their distance from the center. Ten lucky duck adopters will win prizes including the grand prize which is two tickets to the 2007 Daytona 500 with Garage Credentials and accommodations. Other great prizes will be awarded for 2nd-10th place as follows;
“We decided to put a twist on things this year and change it from a race to a drop,” stated Brian Bell, Industry Relations Manager for WAM. “Last year we had several fans who wanted to watch and with the restrictions on access to the infield they were not able to. We worked with Homestead-Miami Speedway and ISC and came up with an idea that would allow anyone to watch. It should be interesting.” All proceeds from the Duck Race will benefit the Women’s Auxiliary of Motorsports, Inc. to help support the numerous charitable causes the organization partners with throughout the year. In 2005, WAM was able to donate nearly $50,000.00 to several charities through the duck adoption program. “We hope this year will be bigger than last year,” continued Bell. “Our goal is to double our donations all of which will be distributed to other charities that fall within our mission.” The Women’s Auxiliary of Motorsports, Inc. (WAM, Inc.), was established in 2004 with the merger of the Winston Cup Racing Wives Auxiliary and the Busch Series Ladies Association. The Auxiliary’s mission is to enrich the lives of women, children, and families through educational and wellness programs. In addition, the Women’s Auxiliary of Motorsports, Inc. helps support organizations with likeminded missions and purposes.
