![]() First Annual WAM Derby Duck Race a Great SuccessHOMESTEAD, FL (November 18, 2005) – The Women’s Auxiliary of Motorsports, Inc. (WAM) held it First Annual WAM Derby Duck Race this morning at the Homestead-Miami Speedway infield lake. Nearly 9,500 ducks were dumped into the infield lake and raced across to the finish line. The first ten ducks that entered the trap represented ten “Lucky Duck” winners. Fans were given an opportunity to adopt ducks at the WAM trackside display or through the WAM website throughout the 2005 season. The ten “Lucky Duck” winners: first-place winner is James Hunt of Adairsville, Ga. (all-expense paid trip to the 2006 Daytona 500), second-place winner is Charlotte Wells of Lyons, Ill. (pair of NNCS tickets to the Bristol night race), third-place winner is Connie Morgan of Flagstaff, Ariz. (pair of NNCS tickets to the 2006 Coca-Cola 600), fourth-place winner is Helen Hackney of Boca Raton, Fla. (pair of NNCS tickets to Las Vegas Motor Speedway). Fifth through tenth place winners will receive a pair of Pit/Garage credentials to a race track of their choice (with the except of Bristol and Martinsville). The winners of the pit/garage credentials include Marty Hazen of Kenmore, N.Y., Susan Mullens of Orlando, Fla., Susan Maxwell of Holly Hill, Fla., Michael Albert of Levittown, Pa., Vicki Olson of Wonewoc, Wis. and Carolyn Lefler, Winter Springs, Fla. WAM would like to thank our Derby Duck Race sponsor, the Home Safety Council, Dean Kurtz and the International Speedway Corporation and Homestead-Miami Speedway for all their efforts in making this event a great success. The funds raised from this event will be distributed among select charities including Motor Racing Outreach, Victory Junction Gang Camp, Jayski’s Computer Lab at VJGC, Speedway Children’s Charities and the Home Safety Council.
