First Annual WAM Derby Duck Race set for November 18 at Homestead-Miami Speedway

CONCORD, NC (November 17, 2005) – The Women’s Auxiliary of Motorsports, Inc. is pleased to announce that its First Annual Derby Duck Race is scheduled for Friday, November 18 at 8:00 a.m.

Nearly 9,500 rubber ducks will be dumped into the infield lake at Homestead-Miami Speedway and raced to the finish. Ten lucky winners will be decided as the first ten ducks enter the duck trap. Prizes include an all-expense paid trip to the 2006 Daytona 500, race tickets to select tracks and an opportunity to attend a race of choice as guests of the Women’s Auxiliary of Motorsports, Inc.

“We have had a blast this year adopting the ducks out at the tracks,” stated Brian Bell, WAM Industry Relations Manager. “We have met a ton of really great race fans and appreciate their support of our cause. In addition, we have developed new relationships with many great companies including the Home Safety Council, our duck race sponsor, International Speedway Corporation, and GAME.”

Through the fans support, WAM raised over $45,000.00 throughout the season at our trackside display and through internet adoptions. All the funds raised through our “Adopt a Duck” program will be distributed to select charities including the Victory Junction Gang Camp, Jayski’s computer lab at VJGC, Motor Racing Outreach, Speedway’s Children’s Charities, and the Home Safety Council.

“The Adopt a Duck program has been a very positive initiative for our organization,” stated Ann Schrader, WAM President. “It has allowed us to reach the fans and get our message our all at the same time. It also allowed us to involve our membership with a hands-on volunteer opportunity.”

Stay tuned to the WAM website at www.waminc.org for updates and information regarding our Second Annual Derby Duck Race set to kick off during Daytona Speedweeks in February of 2006.
