(May 24, 2004) – The Women’s Auxiliary of Motorsports in conjunction with the North Carolina Center for Missing Persons will help competitors in the NASCAR Busch Series recognize Missing Children’s Day during the Busch Series event at Lowe’s Motor Speedway on May 29. A tradition that began in 1996, the WAM will distribute decals and ribbons to the teams for Saturday’s event. In addition to the decals being displayed on the cars, drivers, team members, and race officials are asked to wear the white ribbons, which are symbolic of the innocence of youth and serve as a reminder of those children who have been and who are still missing. Corporate Image Graphics donated the decals for the cars. May 25th was first designated as National Missing Children’s Day by Presidential Proclamation in 1983. Governor Mike Easley has also proclaimed May 25th as “Missing Children’s Day” in North Carolina. The North Carolina Center for Missing Persons is within the Division of Alcohol Law Enforcement, Department of Crime Control and Public Safety. The center’s phone number is 1-800-522-5437. The Women's Auxiliary of Motorsports, Inc. (WAM, Inc.) was established in 2004 with the merger of the Winston Cup Racing Wives Auxiliary and the Busch Series Ladies Association. The Auxiliary’s mission is to enrich the sport of NASCAR® with a commitment to its families through fundraising and wellness programs for those requiring medical or financial assistance. In addition, the Women’s Auxiliary of Motorsports, Inc. helps support organizations with likeminded missions and purposes. Copyright © 2000-2008 Women's Auxiliary of Motorsports, Inc.
