We are pleased to announce that one of our WAM Members has won an award:
D & H Heat Technology, Inc.’s owner Pat Hill was given the 2008 Small Business Manufacturing Award by the North Carolina Motorsports Association. The award was given for introducing a 10000degree Safety Insulation into racing. Her Ohio invention of “Koolmat Insulation” came in 1992. Koolmat is a composite of silicone/ fiberglass safety material used by NASCAR, BUSCH and TRUCK teams in the floors to stop heat and prevent fatigue to driver/ metal components and to stop burns. The award was given while honoring Richard Petty with the Life Time Achievement Award at the Embassy Suites in Concord, North Carolina in January 2008.
WAM Sponsoring Habitat Home
(Concord, NC) LaKisa Cowan counts January 26 as a red letter day for her family. That is the day that construction began on her new home that she is building in partnership with Habitat Cabarrus, thanks to sponsorship by WAM, Inc.
Cowan is a single mother of three daughters and two sons, ages 3 to 13. Cowan is employed by Kannapolis City Schools as a bus driver.
Habitat Cabarrus partners with low income families to build safe, decent, affordable homes that the families purchase with a zero-interest mortgage. Each Habitat Partner Family adult contributes 250 hours of “sweat equity” working on Habitat homes.
WAM is sponsoring the home. “Our members are excited to come together and turn this house into a home for such a wonderful family,” said Cyndi Johns, President, the Women’s Auxiliary of Motorsports. “Having an opportunity to create a sense of security and community for a family in need falls right in line with our goals as an organization, and we are proud to be a part of such a worthwhile cause.”
The build schedule for the Cowan Home spans twelve weeks with volunteers building on Saturdays or Tuesdays. The WAM volunteers will be filling four of those days putting trusses (roof supports) on the home, installing vinyl siding and interior fixtures and painting.
If you are able to help on any of the following days, even for a few hours, please contact Josette Tesar at the WAM Office 704-788-9299 or at jtesar@waminc.org

in 2004 with the merger of the Winston Cup Racing Wives Auxiliary and
the Busch Series Ladies Association. Founded in 1965 and 1996 respectively,
the two organizations decided to join forces, in addition to the ladies
of the Craftsman Truck Series to form one united front. The Auxiliary’s
mission is to enrich the sport of NASCAR® with a commitment to its
families through fundraising and wellness programs for those requiring
medical or financial assistance. In addition, the Women’s Auxiliary
of Motorsports, Inc. helps support organizations with likeminded missions
and purposes.
The Women’s Auxiliary of Motorsports, Inc. exists on fundraising
projects as well as donations to support the activities of WAM. Funds
raised support the Women’s Auxiliary of Motorsports, Inc., which
has grown to enable it to make substantial contributions to NASCAR®
families in need. Additionally, numerous annual fundraising events offer
the chance for fans to get up close and personal with some of their
favorite NASCAR® celebrities while at the same time supporting the
worthwhile causes of WAM, Inc. Events such as celebrity golf tournaments,
celebrity autograph sessions, on-line as well as live memorabilia and
sheet metal auctions, the NASCAR® Pre-Season Thunder Preview and
numerous corporate partnership programs are just a few of the activities
which allow fans and sponsors to experience the Auxiliary’s causes
first hand and further their charitable efforts.
In 2004 the Women’s Auxiliary of Motorsports, Inc.
has been honored with the designation of “Proud Charity of NASCAR®”.
NASCAR® and the Women’s Auxiliary of Motorsports, Inc. have
the combined experience of over 90 years in motorsports. These long
